Devizes 2004

9 club members made the annual pilgrimage to compete in the County Weekend at Devizes whilst a further 5 club members watched the longbow action on Saturday morning.

The weekend starts with a 2 way Western round in which 5 of us took part, 4 for their first time, in a developing breeze. Mike Beare achieved  Second County placing (6th overall), Steve Riggs came 16th, Dave Hindle 30th, Arthur Mordue 31st, Joe Rookes 41st . There was 49 participants so not a bad showing at all from the first timers.

We decided to use this shoot as club longbow champs and using handicap adjustments places were; 1st Steve Riggs, 2nd Mike Beare, 3rd Dave Hindle, 4th Joe Rookes, 5th Arthur Mordue.

Sunday saw the main day with a York, Hereford, Bristols and a national taking place. The day started murky but brightened up later and all day there was a brisk crosswind. Christine Hodder took most unawarded golds at the Hereford and Mike took the second county longbow and Dave Whiddett third county recurve at the York.

Monday was the American on another windy day. Mike managed second county longbow setting a club record in the process, and Dave Whiddett achieved second county recurve also setting a new club record. Although Roy Hodder did not come in the placings he also managed a new club record
