Six members of our club attended the GWAS championship week at Dunster, Somerset, during June 2005.

The week has a competition on every day starting with a FITA on the Monday and culminating with a double York on the Saturday / Sunday. The one thing most days have in common during this week each year is that the weather is calm until about an hour before the shoot, all through the shoot the "Dunster wind" blows from a different direction every few minutes and sometimes different directions at once, and about an hour after the end of the shoot it is calm again.

Christine, Roy, Mike and Steve took part in 5 days shooting and Dave and Arthur came for the two way Longbow event on Wednesday. After many good perfomances Christine managed to get a 1st, and a 2nd overall, and also a 3rd GWAS award (compound), Mike two 3rd GWAS awards (Longbow),  Steve a 2nd GWAS award (Longbow).

To many the highlight of the week is the 2 way Western Longbow shoot on the Wednesday which attracted around 200 archers, possibly the biggest shoot of its' kind in the country, some archers dressing up in old costumes for the day. Steve came in the top 20 of this large field, a very good achievement.

Some general photos from a previous shoot (2002) are shown alongside clicking on the picture will show the larger version.
